This week for 20% I wathed a screencast on Screen Casts Online. The host of the screencast was Don Mcalsiter. The screencast that I watched was about Omnigraffle 5, the latest version of the Omnigraffle application. Omnigraffle is an application form the Omni Group. Omnigraffle is an application that allows and helps you create diagrams, process charts, quick page-layouts or to make website mockups or graphic designs. This application is capable of making all your diagramming and designing fast and easy, with the ability to customize and tweak every aspect of your work.

Don also shows us all of the new updates that have been made to the application and what features have remained the same as earlier versions. Don also informs viewers that there are two versions of Omnigraffle, there are the standard version and the pro version. The pro version contains more updates and new feature that the standard does not. In the screencast Don uses the pro version to show all of his examples.
This week for 20% time I was looking through my RSS reader at all of the stuff that has to do with Macs and Mac products. I got some information on new products such as the latest version of the iPhone. The newest iPhone, the 3G, with some upgrades will be available by mid-June.
This week for 20% time I watched the episode#66 the latest addition to the of the ilifezone podcasts. In this podcast Liana Lehua, a guest host on ilifezone, gave a few tips using iphoto. Liana discussed how she adds photos to iphoto by draging the photo or folder of photos to iph0t0 then syncs her iphone to iphoto and is able to get those very same photos on there.
This week for my 20% time watched another ilifezone episode. In the episode that I watched this week, Liana Lehua explained how to automatically log into applications at the same time that you turn on your computer using the system preferences.
You first go to the System Preferences, you go to accounts and select “Login Items”. From there you select the add button and a list of all your applications pops out and from there you select the applications you wish to log into during start up.
This week for my 20% time I watched two podcasts from ilifezone. ilifezone is a website that hosts podcasts and blogs which give lessons on how to get the most you can out of your Mac hardware and software. This week during class I watched podcasts of episodes 53, which had to do with disk images, and 59, which delt with desktop management. On podcast 53, Liana Lehua, an ilifezone guest host, explains to viewers how to change any disk image. Liana explains using one of many correct method. She performs this using an exxample on a newer MacBook Pro running a Tiger operating system. Episode 59 Liana, once again using a newer MacBook Pro running Tiger, talks about some software that can help keep your desktop managable and free form distraction. One of the programs that she uses for an example is menushade. Menushade is a program that can help with distractions from your work by adding either adding transparancy of blakingout your menu. This program can be used on Tiger and Lepord. Another program used for an example is backdrop. This is a program that also can help with distractions by blackingout the entire desktop.
This week for my 20% time I downloaded and installed Piclens for one our class laptop #11. On this computer I downloaded Piclens for both the Safari and Firefox web browsers on that laptop. The process for downloading Piclens for both browsers are basically the same. On the Piclens website you simply select the web browser you wish to use it on.
The process of downloading Piclens is shown here. You start out like I mentioned before by selecting the web browser that you wish to download it for on the website. After completing the download you take the necessary steps given by your computer inorder to install Piclens on your computer. This then enables use of Piclens on that web browser only.
This week for 20% time, I made four more updates on the class laptop that I’ve been working with. The updates that were supposed to be made this week were once again Airport Extreme Update, Front Row, iDVD, MacBook EFI Firmware,iTunes, and Quik Time. I was only able to make the first four updates, this was once again due to the time I was limited with. Also I wasn’t able to make those updates because they were way to big. One alone would have taken up two or more class periods.
This week on my 20% time Tuesday, I was updating another one of our class laptops. On the laptop that I was updating, there were only four updates that I was going to be able make due to the shortened time I had for class this week. The updates that I was making were: Airport Extreme Update 2007, Front Row Update, iDVD, and Mac Book EF.I Firmware Update. In total, all of the updates added up to about 27mb. Though it was such a small amount, unfortunately I ran out of time before I was able to complete the fourth update.
This week for my 20% time was asked by my teacher to begin updating some of our class laptops. She had already started and finished updating a couple of the laptops. When I checked the software for any updates the search had come up with twelve new updates. While waiting for updates to be installed I noticed that each took up quite a bit of time to do so. Unfortunatlly I was unable to stay for all of the updates to install. I was only able to be in class for itunes, Garage Band, and most of Quicktime. Unfortunatly I was unable to stay to complete the rest of Quiktime, which alone was going to take just over a half of an hour, or the rest of the updates. S ince the updating proccess had already began I could not shut of the computer and put it away, so I left the laptop for my teacher to watch over for me.
